Porsche is reviving the legend of the Dakar rally with the launch of the new 911 Dakar and two exclusive timepieces from Porsche Design. The Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar and the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition were both created for buyers of these extraordinary sports cars and continue the iconic design of their motorized counterparts.
Innovation meets tradition with the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar, which features the world’s first highly scratch-resistant titanium carbide case. This material was developed by Porsche Design’s in-house manufactory in Solothurn, Switzerland after five years of research and development. The result is a chronograph case that is not only durable and resistant to scratches, but also anti-allergenic, lightweight, and free from any visible aging process. The black powder finish and elegant crystal structure of titanium carbide make it easily distinguishable from other materials.
The Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar also boasts optimal readability with its red 60 on the minute scale and red stop hands. The black dial, with its sporty contrast to the red lettering, displays the words “911 Dakar” above the date display at 3 o’clock, further emphasizing the watch’s connection to the limited Porsche special model. The Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar Rallye Design comes with an additional Roughroads graphic in the colors white, blue, gold, and red, paying tribute to the rally’s motorsport legend.
The winding rotor of the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar is a detail-oriented reproduction of the rim on the Porsche 911 Dakar, available in black satin gloss, white uni, or Vesuvius grey. The rim ring is in brilliant silver for the black satin finish and Vesuvius grey options, while the central cap features the modern Porsche crest in the selected rim color. The rotor and the Porsche Design WERK 01.240 caliber, which is COSC-certified and has a flyback function, are protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with sevenfold anti-reflective coating. The pushers and crown are also made of titanium.
The high-quality leather straps of the Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar can be easily replaced without the use of tools, thanks to the quick-change system. The black leather strap, with its contrasting stitching and perforation with a backing made of Race-Tex, is inspired by the seat center panel of the Porsche 911 Dakar.
The Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar and Chronograph 1 – 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition will be available for purchase starting November 17 at Porsche Centers, exclusively for buyers of the new Porsche 911 Dakar and 911 Dakar Rallye Design.
Prices start at 13,950 euros (RRP) and the watches are limited to a total of 2,500 pieces. Customers will receive their timepieces in a high-quality wooden box with a certificate of authenticity.
